U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) extended Optional Practical Training (OPT) period from 12 months to 29 months for qualified F1 students.
In a press release, DHS says "By extending the training period by an additional 17 months to students who are employed by businesses enrolled in E-Verify, we are ensuring a legal workforce in the U.S. and aiding good corporate citizens."
This would mean a lot more flexible plans for students on F1 visa status. For me, I need not spend on H1 visa to get my two years work experience before I pursue my other goals.
